JOURNALISM EXPERIENCE
News & Environmental Reporter 
The Southeast Asia Globe in Phnom Penh, Cambodia (Sept. 2021 to present)
  • Covering environmental issues in Cambodia and across Indochina, such as forest health, biodiversity, sustainable energy, river management and wildlife conservation 
  • ​​Collaborating with The Pulitzer Center's Rainforest Investigations Network to cover transboundary forests in Cambodia and the legal privatization of protected areas
  • Producing photo series, mini-documentaries and data graphics to support text stories
  • ​Developing publication partnerships for collaborative coverage between The Globe and other regional newsrooms, like Frontier Myanmar, China Dialogue and The Third Pole 
  • Spearheading applications to journalism grants to bolster funding for investigations and general news coverage. The Globe has so far received grants from the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Foundation and The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting
  • Perfecting a process to translate English articles into the Khmer language in order to make high-impact stories more accessible to local audiences

Investigative Reporter
The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting in Brazil, 
Cambodia & Vietnam (
Nov. 2019 to present)
  • Rainforest Investigations Network Fellow in Cambodia (March 2022 to present) 
    • Selected as a fellow to investigate rainforest issues in Cambodia as part of a collaboration between The Globe and The Pulitzer Center
    • Investigating deforestation and poaching in transboundary forests on the borders of Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos, with a focus on international timber agreements, regional forest management and local law enforcement
    • Covering the legal privatization and development of Cambodia's protected areas through economic land concessions and land exchanges
    • Collaborated with U.S. newsrooms, like NBC News, to investigate corruption within the international wildlife trade, with a specific look at threatened monkeys
    • Established an English-to-Khmer translation process within The Globe, while developing co-publication partnerships with local and regional newsrooms, including The Mekong Eye, The Third Pole, VOD Khmer, Kiripost and Reporting ASEAN
  • Rainforest Journalism Fund in Cambodia and Vietnam (Sept. to Oct. 2022)
    • ​Selected as a grantee to receive a reporting grant to investigate the effect of 'silent forest syndrome' on human and forest health in Southeast Asia, as part of a collaboration between The Straits Times and The Globe
    • Co-published a long-form multimedia series with research from more than 30 interviews and field reporting from protected areas, animal markets and wildlife rescue centers in Vietnam and Cambodia
    • Produced a feature video on unique conservation tactics in Cambodia, while contributing to a documentary about the impacts of wildlife consumption on human and forest health
    • Nominated as one of The Pulitzer Center's 2022 Stories of the Year
  • Campus Consortium Network in Pará, Brazil (Nov. 2019 to Nov. 2020)​
    • Selected by Elon University and The Pulitzer Center as a 2020 Campus Consortium Reporting Fellow to investigate the resurgence of leprosy in Brazil by looking into the lack of resources for affected patients
    • Complemented the text story by producing data visualizations, photography and videography. While additionally writing five side-stories covering nuanced aspects of the disease, including antibiotic resistance, societal stigma and leprosy evaluations
    • Nominated as one of The Pulitzer Center 2020 Stories of the Year

Environmental Reporter
The Arizona Republic in Arizona, U.S. (Aug. 2020 to Aug. 2021)
  • Investigated environmental issues in Arizona and across the Southwest to produce solution-based journalism that delved into the nuances of public policy and climate realities. Covered topics, including the environmental impact of the border wall, public lands policy, water scarcity and post-wildfire land recovery
  • Took photos for over two dozen stories and produced nine videos, as well as multiple infographics to complement text reporting
  • Managed the environmental team’s social media presence by creating new engagement strategies, which doubled Twitter impressions and Instagram followers​
  • Prompted change with stories leading to federal funding for wildlife diseases, the withdrawal of development plans and the reconsideration of state hunting policies

News Reporter
N.C. Local News Corps in North Carolina, U.S. (June to July 2020)​
  • Reported on the impact of COVID-19 on schools, religions and businesses, while covering the Black Lives Matter movement 
  • Produced in-depth coverage, in English and Spanish, on issues such as housing evictions, police mutual aid agreements and slavery reparations, leading to the production of more than a dozen stories that were published 65 times in 31 local newsrooms 
  • Pitched and developed publication relationships with 31 local media outlets for digital, print and radio coverage. Partner newsrooms included The Charlotte Observer, The Raleigh News & Observer, Greensboro News & Record, WFAE, La Noticia and NC Policy Watch

Managing Editor & Multimedia Journalist 
Elon News Network in 
North Carolina, U.S. (Sept. 2016 to May 2020)
  • Oversaw the editing and assigning of daily content for the network’s website and newspaper over the course of two years, while managing nearly 60 reporters throughout the pandemic outbreak, two hurricanes and a teacher unionization 
  • Coordinated the multimedia work of designers, photographers, videographers and social media managers. Assisted in the design of print publication and the web layout of each story, often spearheading the coding of infographics and data visualizations
  • Composed long-form investigative stories on pressing topics, such as faculty unions, sexual offender recidivism and concealed carry permits

Arizona, U.S. (Jan. to Aug. 2019)
  • Investigated national wildfire mitigation, suppression and recovery tactics, which culminated in a multimedia story, documentary and podcast. The story was re-published by more than 70 national news organizations, such as The Associated Press
  • Actively covered the Woodbury Fire in the Superstition Wilderness for nearly a week. By the time the blaze was extinguished, the wildfire had become the fifth largest in state history
  • Reported on national post-disaster power recovery trends by digging into federal and state data, which culminated in a data-driven multimedia story with photo, text and graphics

Morocco World News in 
Rabat, Morocco (March to May 2019)
  • Consistently covered the national contractual teachers’ movement, which at the time was the largest and longest educational strike in modern Moroccan history
  • Reported and photographed daily news across Morocco, covering Indigenous protests, pious visits, royal announcements and desert marathons
  • ​Expanded Morocco World News' national coverage by traveling to other cities, such as Ouarzazate, Fez, Salé and Casablanca, to cover events and write features

Documentarian
The Imagining the Internet Center in 
North Carolina, U.S. (Aug. to Nov. 2018 & 2019)
  • Traveled to Paris, France to document the 13th Internet Governance Forum by interviewing more than 60 attendees and covering President Emmanuel Macron’s opening address
  • Traveled to San José, Costa Rica to document the fifth Internet Hall of Fame by interviewing the eight inductees and covering the official induction ceremony
