ELON NEWS NETWORK

Picture
Elon News Network is a student-run news organization at Elon University in Alamance County, North Carolina. The newsroom produces content on multiple platforms, including online, print, broadcast and radio.

I joined ENN within my first week on campus and passionately served until my graduation in May 2020. During these formative years of my journalism career, I held the positions of multimedia reporter, enterprise editor and managing editor. Despite the several all-nighters, many skipped classes and gray hairs that came with student news — I adored every minute of it.

Low-risk sex offenders struggle to reintegrate, rely on local groups
When Dwayne Daughtry meets someone for the first time, it rarely starts with an introduction. “Every day I feel like I’m reliving my crime all over again,” Daughtry said. “When people talk to me, the first thing they want to hear about is what I did — not what I do or who I am.” In 2011, Daughtry was charged with sexual battery — the only misdemeanor that leads to being listed as a sex offender.

Concealed handgun carry permits increase across country, state

Within moments, his 9-millimeter handgun is comfortably concealed by his waist. On most days, the 57-year-old drives east toward Academy Sports + Outdoors, a sporting goods discount store chain, where he works part-time.

The Battery Man: A student's road into the motorcycling industry
MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Facing his parents, just weeks shy of turning 16, Shan Roy knew from the looks on their faces the chances of unwrapping his dream gift on his birthday were slim. “No. There is no way, it’s too dangerous.” This was the response Shan both dreaded and expected. He knew asking for a dirt bike was going to be a stretch, but it was still almost his birthday.

How art is helping a city step out of the shadow of Confederate Day
GRAHAM, N.C. — At the intersection of Main and Elm streets, the words “Our Confederate Soldiers” are inscribed at the base of a 30-foot-high monument. Standing at the top of the monument in front of Alamance County’s Historic Courthouse, with a rifle in hand, is a statue of a Confederate common soldier...
